What does this mean and how does it affect the Azure Landing Zones?
Taking a different spin on that question… how are you going to manage your Azure Landing Zone once deployed? How does your current IT operating model work? All these plays into the Cloud Operating Model.
First thing 1st how is your organisation currently setup? Microsoft suggest that most companies will full into 1 of the 4 categories below:
- De-Centralised
- Centralised
- Enterprise
- Distributed
I’m not going to go into these in detail as Microsoft have done a great job of this already and you can compare the different operating models here and see the advantages and disadvantages of each:

Once you’ve understood what operating model you currently have, may raise some questions about whether you want to stay as is or change your operating model.
Some core areas to consider are as follows:
- Business Strategy
- Operations
- Governance
- Security
- Automation and DevOps
- Billing
The next step is to look at your Roles and Responsibilities, when filling this out you need to also think about whether or not you have enough staff or need to recruit and do your current staff have the skills or do they need to be trained. Or do you look externally for a managed service and there are lots of Microsoft Service Partners around.
Microsoft have a template that you can use to help guide you through this:
This is just a high level overview, I’ll likely write a more detailed one later so watch this space.
